Temporary Restraining Orders (TRO)

You can find comprehensive information about Temporary Restraining Orders on the Dane County Clerk of Courts webpage TRO Information Page

  • The Civil Process Unit receives TROs filed with Dane County directly from the Courthouse.
  • The Civil Process Unit also receives TROs from other Counties. If your TRO was filed in a County other than Dane, please follow the filing instructions given by that County. If you need to send the TRO to us directly, please call our office.
  • TROs are top priority and service is typically tried the same day. Successful service is often dependent on the information provided on the paperwork submitted.
  • Service attempts may be made between the hours of 7:00am and 10:00pm Monday – Friday depending on deputy staffing.
  • TRO paperwork typically states service can be made up until 48 hours prior to the hearing. Attempts can still be made, however an extension may be granted if it is served less than 48 hours prior to the hearing. If an extension is granted during the hearing then deputies will continue attempts until service is completed or the next scheduled hearing occurs.

You may call our office at (608) 284- 6824 to check on the status of your TRO.
