Visitation areas of the Dane County Jail will remain closed until further notice for non-professional visits. The practices implemented by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office Security Services during the COVID-19 Pandemic are guided by our mission statement, more specifically to “provide a safe and secure community through professional service and partnership.” The Dane County Sheriff’s Office routinely collaborates with our health care provider, public health, and others to make the best decisions based on the most current information (CDC, government directives, etc.). Our difficult decisions are guided by the above listed meetings, collaboration, and information. While other jails or parts of the community may return to full operations; the Dane County Jail will make decisions based on what is best for our staff, community (community members inside and outside the jail), and other stakeholders (justice partners, healthcare community, etc.). We continue to evaluate the conditions presented to us; we will not implement step down practices until we have had time to assess the conditions and collaborate with our partners. We thank you for your continued understanding, patience, and support.
