The day after a multi-jurisdictional incident culminated in an officer-involved shooting on Interstate 90/94, investigators are putting together the pieces and asking for witnesses to call and share information.

Law enforcement first responded in West Allis, when a 42-year-old man was shot and killed in an apartment building in the 2300 block of S. 92nd St.  The shooter, a 20-year-old West Allis man, left the scene in his 1998 Chevrolet S10 Blazer.

From there, the suspect, now with his two brothers’ ages 30 and 34 as passengers, drove west toward the Wisconsin Dells.  Then at approximately 2:55 pm, the Sauk County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a drive-by shooting on Interstate 90/94 near mile marker 95.  A female in the passenger seat of a BMW sedan was shot and remains at UW Hospital.  Another vehicle, a Nissan sedan was also struck by at least one round, but the female driver from Florida was not injured.

Witnesses called 911 to report the location of the vehicle, and Troopers from the WI State Patrol, along with deputies from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and a Lodi Police Officer pursued the vehicle.  As the suspect vehicle crossed the county line into Dane, a Dane County Sheriff’s Deputy deployed road spikes, disabling the vehicle.  The suspect then exited the vehicle and began to walk toward law enforcement armed with a revolver.  Despite verbal commands to stop, the suspect continued to advance toward police and two Columbia County Deputies shot the suspect.  He currently remains at UW Hospital and is in the custody of the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.  A second firearm was also recovered from the Chevrolet Blazer.

The passengers in the suspect vehicle are currently being held in the Dane County Jail.

Today, detectives are processing evidence and following up on interviews with witnesses.  Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed activity on the Interstate yesterday involving the silver 1998 Chevrolet S10 Blazer to call the Dane County tip line at 608-284-6900.
