Dane County Deputies Enforce Move Over Law

One day after a Dane County Highway worker James Porter was killed on US HWY 151, Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted enforcement in a construction zone on HWY 14 near Oregon. Three Dane County traffic team deputies issued 29 citations between the hours of 9:00 am and 2:00 pm. The violations included speeding, failure to fasten seatbelts, failure to change lanes passing a parked emergency vehicle (Move Over Law), operating while revoked, and others. During the enforcement, the construction zone was active with a 45 mph speed limit. Several of the speeding violations were for 20 over the speed limit. Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies will continue to provide enforcement of all traffic laws in work zones in an effort to improve the safety of our highway workers and emergency responders. Please remember when approaching any vehicle parked on the side of the road with emergency lights flashing to move over if possible. If you’re not able to change lanes, slow down, it’s the law! ###
