Madison, WI. April 9th, 2010 – Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested thirty-seven year old Daniel W. Rezza, of Madison, for Operating While Intoxicated – 5th Offense. The felony charge carries a 6-month to 6-year jail or prison sentence.

At approximately 12:45am, a Deputy conducted a traffic stop at N. Sherman Avenue and Northport Drive in the City of Madison. The Deputy observed Rezza’s vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign and nearly cause a traffic crash at the intersection of Melrose Street and Northport Drive. While the Deputy was speaking with Rezza, a strong odor of intoxicants was detected. Field sobriety tests were conducted and Rezza was subsequently placed under arrest.

After taking Rezza to the hospital for a blood draw, he was booked into the Dane County Jail on the felony charge. Rezza was cited for Operating After Revocation, Unsafe Lane Deviation and Improper Stop.

Throughout the night, Deputies made four other Operating While Intoxicated arrests and an Absolute Sobriety arrest following traffic stops. In 2009, 33 people were killed in traffic crashes in Dane County with alcohol a factor in 11 fatalities
