At approximately 9:30 PM last evening a jury for Branch 12 delivered a guilty verdict for defendant, Dwight Scott on charges of Armed Robbery and Burglary. Scott’s bail was revoked by Judge Flanagan and Scott was to be taken into custody by Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies. Scott and the courtroom spectators were visibly upset with the verdict. Scott refused to comply with directions from the Deputies and physically resisted Deputies attempts to direct him out of the courtroom. He struggled with deputies and was pepper sprayed before being stabilized and placed in handcuffs on the courtroom floor.
Approximately ten family and friends of Scott present in the courtroom became upset and began yelling profanities at the deputies attempting to take Scott into custody. The spectators became increasingly vocal and approached the courtroom partition continuing to yell at the deputies. The Deputies assigned to the courthouse were assisted by Deputies from the jail and the observers were ultimately verbally directed out of the courtroom.
Deputies requested additional help and were quickly assisted by Weapon Screening staff and Officers from the Madison Police Department. The spectators were escorted from the courthouse.
The only injuries reported were minor scrapes to one of the deputies. Scott may additionally be charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
