Sheriff's Office

State grants will support additional traffic enforcement by Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies who will be patrolling in higher numbers today and Wednesday, April 15th. With a long weekend upon us, traffic is expected to be heavier than normal. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind everyone to drive the speed limit, buckle-up, and always drive sober. Road construction is also underway in many areas. Be aware of the decreased speed limits in these areas, and remember, traffic fines in construction zones double when workers are present. Each deployment will put five additional deputies on Dane County roads to enforce traffic laws. The Sheriff’s deputies will be working at all hours of the day and night, and in all areas of the county. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) funds these overtime deployments in an effort to decrease the number of fatality and injury crashes on Wisconsin highways. According to the WI DOT, in 2007, 923 people were injured in speed related crashes in Dane County, and 19 people were killed. ###
