On Friday, April 17th, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office conducted two traffic enforcement deployments funded by grants provided by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. Speed and Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) were the main focus for the patrols; however, all traffic laws were strictly enforced. Sheriff’s deputies working the state OWI grant issued a total of 35 citations. They included four OWI’s, four Operating After Revocation, eleven Speeding, two Operating After Suspension, two No Driver’s License, one Unauthorized Plate, one Non-Registration, one Operating Left of Center, and three Seatbelt violations. Deputies also gave out two Juvenile Alcohol citations and one citation for a Minor Transporting Alcohol. In addition to the Sheriff’s deputies working the grant patrols, patrol deputies working their normal shifts over the weekend made eleven other OWI arrests. One of the arrests included, Gerardo Mena of Mazomanie, a 5th Offense drunk driver. At approximately 1:15 am on Sunday, deputies arrested Paul A. Reynolds, age 44 of Columbus. After he was cited for OWI – 1st Offense, he was arrested for Carrying a Concealed Weapon when a 9mm handgun was found in the center console of his vehicle. Reynolds was also cited for Possession of THC, Possession of Paraphernalia, Unreasonable Speed, and Open Intoxicants. The speed enforcement grant resulted in a total of 36 citations being issued. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office will continue to conduct these overtime grant funded deployments until the end of September. ###
