Drunk Drivers: Not Only a Weekend Problem

Driving in this morning’s snowstorm was difficult, but trying to drive in it with a BAC over three-times the legal limit…impossible. That’s what Gary L. Schmelzer, age 52 of Oregon found when he drove into a ditch near the intersection of CTH MM and Harding Street in the town of Oregon. A Dane County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the incident shortly before 10:00 am. Schmelzer was cited for Operating While Intoxicated – 2nd Offense. Roadways throughout Dane County continue to be snow covered and hazardous. If you must travel tonight, do so slowly and with caution. As always, wear your seatbelt and drive sober. ###
