On Sunday August 8th, Dane County will be host to the Centurion Cycling event, one of only three being held in North America this year.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office wants to inform citizens in western Dane County of the potential for traffic delays between the hours of 7:00 am and 3:00 pm. The event will start and finish at the Middleton Municipal Airport and travel through western Dane County and a small portion of Iowa County.

At the beginning, race participants will have a controlled closure for approximately 15 minutes. This will include Airport Road, Enchanted Valley, CTH P, Bourbon Road, CTH KP, and a portion of Garfoot Road. After that, participants will be marshaled to the right side of the road and will be required to stay right of the centerline for the remainder of the course. Traffic is free to travel, but motorists should be cautious and expect delays. Sheriff’s deputies will control all major intersections and course marshals will help to ensure the participants are staying on course. Deputies will allow and manage cross traffic based on overall safety. Motorists may consider finding alternative routes if possible.

In addition to communications to local residents from the organizers of the event, the Sheriff’s Office has issued a Reverse 911 call to residents of western Dane County that may be affected by the event. The Reverse 911 call will begin at noon on Saturday and will cover citizens in the towns of Middleton, Berry, Springfield, Cross Plains, Vermont, Black Earth and Mazomanie. It will also go to the villages of Cross Plains, Black Earth, Mazomanie and Blue Mounds.
