Dane County Mourns Death of Coroner Ray Wosepka

Dane County Coroner Raymond W. Wosepka died this afternoon from apparent heart-related complications. Wosepka was the county’s coroner for 13 years, retiring in 2001 after being diagnosed with throat cancer. Wosepka was re-appointed Coroner in September 2009 following the death of John Stanley.
Wosepka had worked as a liaison between two tissue banks in Madison and coroner and medical examiner’s offices. He had also been a Madison police officer, a correctional officer, and a court liaison.
Chief Deputy Coroner Barry Irmen will serve as the Interim Dane County Coroner.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Wosepka’s family. He was a dedicated public servant and will be truly missed.
