On Monday, January 18th, at approximately 3:36 a.m., Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an inmate of the Dane County Jail -- Public Safety Building -- attempting to commit suicide.

A deputy and nurse were providing scheduled medical care to the inmate when they saw he had tied his shirt around his neck.  Deputies and medical staff immediately entered the cell and removed the ligature from the inmate’s neck.  The inmate was breathing on his own without the need for resuscitation but was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Upon his return from the hospital, the inmate will be moved to an area of the Dane County Jail where he will be placed on suicide watch.  Medical and mental health staff will also work with the inmate.

The 20 year-old man from Madison, is being held in the Dane County Jail on the charge of Disorderly Conduct.
