MAN ARRESTED FOR OWI-CAUSING INJURY AFTER VEHICLE PURSUIT

 At 6:56pm, a Stoughton Police  Officer attempted to stop a 2000 Dodge Neon on Hwy B at Country Club Road in the City of Stoughton for a speed violation.  The vehicle refused to stop, at which time a vehicle pursuit ensued.  After several minutes, Stoughton Police Officers lost sight of the vehicle and the pursuit was terminated.

At 7:10pm, a Dane County Deputy observed the vehicle traveling south on USH 51 at Schneider Drive at a high rate of speed, and the pursuit was re-initiated.  The suspect vehicle refused to stop and increased its speed to approximately 90 miles per hour.   At the intersection of USH 51 and South Brooklyn Drive, an Acura vehicle was stopped in the southbound lane waiting to turn east onto South Brooklyn Drive.  A Jeep vehicle, also traveling south on USH 51, attempted to go around the Acura on the right..  At this time, the Neon also attempted to pass the Acura on the right and struck the rear of the Jeep, causing it to strike the rear of the Acura.  As a result of the impact, the Neon rolled over several times before coming to rest in the west ditch. 

The driver of the Neon, James A. Jones, age 25, of  Black River Falls, WI, was initially pinned inside the Neon as a result of the crash.  Jones was extricated by Stoughton Fire personnel and transported by Med-Flight to U.W. Hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries.  The driver of the Acura, Erin R. Horswill, age 34, of Stoughton, and her two passengers, suffered minor injuries.  Horswill and her passengers were treated at the scene by Stoughton EMS and released. The driver of the Jeep, Daniel A. Wilkins, age 22, of Madison,, and his four passengers, suffered minor injuries.  Wilkins and his passengers were also treated by Stoughton EMS at the scene and released.

 Jones was arrested for Causing Injury by Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of an Intoxicant, Knowingly Fleeing an Officer and Recklessly Endangering Safety.  Additionally, Jones will be issued citations for numerous traffic violations.
