Fire Damages Bible Campground

Madison, WI. Sunday March 15, 2009 At 12:49 p.m., Dane County Deputies responded with McFarland, Blooming Grove and Fitchburg Fire Departments to 2851 Crescent Drive, in the Town of Dunn, for a report of a structure fire at the Lake Waubesa Bible Campground. The campground contains two dorm style buildings. The fire and subsequent damage was contained to one of the buildings and is considered a total loss. The fire was started by a 14-year old who was mishandling fire materials. All occupants safely evacuated, however, an 18-year old was transported to a local hospital for possible smoke inhalation. The campground is owned and operated by Lake Waubesa Bible Camp Incorporated. The case will be referred to the District Attorney’s office for possible charges of Injury by Negligent Handling of Fire and Mishandling of Fire Materials. McFarland Fire Department estimated the damage at $150,000.
