Madison, WI. February 21, 2009. On Saturday, February 21, 2009, at approximately 8:12 p.m., Deputies from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, along with an off-duty McFarland Officer, McFarland EMS, and Stoughton EMS responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 51, just north of Schneider Road, in the Town of Dunn, which involved a vehicle and a county highway snow plow truck. The plow truck was traveling south on U.S. Highway 51. The driver of the other vehicle was traveling north and appears, at this time, to have crossed over the centerline, crashing into the front of the plow truck. The driver of this vehicle has sustained life-threatening injuries. The passenger had to be extricated and has minor injuries. Both were transported to a local hospital. Med Flight was requested, but was unable to fly due to weather conditions. Names are not being released at this time pending notification of family members. All occupants were wearing their seatbelts and alcohol was not a factor in the crash. U.S. Highway 51 is currently closed between Schneider Road and Colladay Point Drive. ****UPDATE**** U.S. Highway 51 was opened to normal traffic at approximately 12:30 a.m. on 02-22-09. ****UPDATE**** The injuries to the driver that struck the snow plow have been down graded to serious but not life-threatening. The driver has been identified as Victoria Jones, age 28 from Middleton. It appears weather and road conditions were the biggest contributing factors to the crash. It remains under investigation by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.
