Two Apprehended After a Short Pursuit

Madison, WI: January 10th, 2009 – At approximately 10:18am a Deputy from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle on County Highway M near Borchers Beach Road in the Town of Westport. After verbally identifying the female driver and male passenger, the vehicle fled the scene at a high rate a speed. A short vehicle pursuit ensued eastbound on County Highway M which ended after the vehicle lost control and slid into a snow covered ditch near County Highway K. The driver and passenger ran from the vehicle and were apprehended after a short foot pursuit. The pursuing deputy was assisted in making the arrest of the passenger by a passerby and a clerk from a near-by BP convenience store. The driver, Christina Burgin, age 28 from Madison, was apprehended by a Waunakee Police Officer after a witness observed her walking in the area. Burgin was booked into the Dane County Jail and charged with felony eluding a police officer and obstructing. The passenger, later identified as Spencer L. Gore, age 36 from Madison, was booked in the Dane County Jail on numerous outstanding warrants. He was also charged with obstructing for providing a false name when he was first contacted by the deputy. No injuries were sustained by any parties involved. The Madison Police Department also assisted the Sheriff’s Office in searching the area for the suspects.
