Sheriff's Office

Tis the season to celebrate! The Dane County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind drivers to do so responsibly. Since Thanksgiving weekend, deputies have seen unusually high numbers of intoxicated drivers, and last weekend was no exception. From Friday, December 12th to Sunday, December 14th, Sheriff’s Deputies arrested nine drivers for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI). Five of the arrests were on Friday night. For most it was their 1st offense, but for a 45-year-old man from Madison, it was his 4th offense. He was also cited for Operating After Revocation-5th Offense, and Domestic Disorderly Conduct. He continues to be held in the Dane County Jail. A three-time offender from Deforest was arrested after he passed a Dane County squad car at a high rate of speed on US Highway 51. The 24-year-old man was also cited for Operating After Suspension–3rd Offense. He tested at over twice the legal limit on the Intoximeter and was booked into the Dane County Jail. Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies will continue to make traffic safety a high priority by taking intoxicated drivers off the road. Don’t assume you won’t be caught. Find a designated driver, call a friend, or stay where you are…but don’t drink and drive. ###
