At 10:09 am on Sunday, October 12th, Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a one-vehicle crash on USH 51, near Lake Kegonsa Road in the town of Dunn. As the deputies were responding, the dispatcher informed them that the driver of the 2001 Oldsmobile Intrigue might have crashed due to a medical condition. Sgt. David Ritter was the first one to arrive on the scene. He immediately began performing CPR on the driver who was without a pulse and not breathing. A short time later, Deputy Juan Mejia arrived and administered one shock to the victim with an AED from his squad car. The deputies were able to restore the man’s pulse and he was transported by Med Flight to Stoughton Hospital, where doctors confirmed that the 84-year-old man from Rockford, Ill. had suffered a heart attack. He was later transferred to UW Hospital. Sgt. David Ritter has over 21 years of service with the Dane County Sheriff’s Office and Deputy Juan Mejia has been with the Sheriff’s Office for 15 years. ###
