On Wednesday, September 10th at approximately 4:35 pm, Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a possible residential burglary in progress. A passerby reported seeing a man running from a home on White Crossing Road in the town of Verona. The witness was able to provide a vehicle description and license plate number to the dispatcher. When Dane County Deputies arrived in the area, they spotted a vehicle matching the description from the witness. The deputies proceeded to stop the vehicle, at which time the man ran from the vehicle, fleeing into a nearby cornfield and eventually into a creek. The man then surrendered to the deputies, and eventually admitted to detectives that he had entered the home on White Crossing Road through an unlocked front door. While in the home, he was startled by a noise and quickly left through a front window, dropping the change and jewelry he was attempting to steal. Sebastian A. Volkmer, also known as Sebastian Strelow, age 20 of Madison, has been booked into the Dane County Jail on a tentative charge of Burglary. His passenger in the vehicle, Ashley R. Diederich, age 22 of Madison, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for Criminal Damage to Property. She is also being held in the Dane County Jail. In this situation, the offender knew the homeowner and had knowledge that the homeowner would be gone at the time of the burglary. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office reminds citizens to secure all windows and doors in their home. Anyone witnessing suspicious activity in their neighborhood should do just as this witness did, and call 911 immediately. ###
