Madison, WI: Friday, July 4, 2008 At 1:39 am, Dane County Deputies, Waunakee Police Officers, and Waunakee Fire and EMS responded to CTH Q, 400 feet north of Meffert Road, in the Town of Westport, for a reported roll-over crash. The first arriving Waunakee Police Officer reported the driver was pinned in the truck, which was approximately 75 feet off of the roadway west of CTH Q. Investigating Deputies determined Mark A. Laufenberg, age 51 of Waunakee, was driving north on CTH Q, when his 2005 GMC Sierra K1500 pick up truck traveled onto the east shoulder. Laufenberg's truck then crossed over both lanes of CTH Q and into the west ditch, causing the truck to roll over two times. Laufenberg was extricated by Waunakee Fire, and then transported to UW Hospital via Med Flight for treatment of significant, but non-life threatening injuries. Laufenberg was wearing a seatbelt, and the truck's airbags did deploy. Laufenberg was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated - First Offense, and Driving Too Fast For Conditions. Laufenberg remains hospitalized at this time. Speed and alcohol both appear to be factors contributing to this crash.
