Madison, WI: Wednesday, July 9, 2008 At 9:49pm, Dane County Sheriff's Deputies, Deerfield Fire and Deer-Grove EMS, responded to USH 12/18, .5 mile east of CTH W, in the Town of Deerfield, for a two-vehicle crash with injuries. A Pontiac Grand Prix, operated by Jared D. Long, 27, of Deerfield, was traveling eastbound on USH 12/18 in the town of Deerfield. After passing a vehicle in a No Passing Zone, Long lost control of his vehicle, crossed the center line and struck a westbound vehicle, a Hyundai Sonata, operated by Hayley D. Huebner, 27, of Grayslake, Illinois, head-on. Huebner was pinned in her car and had to be extricated by Deerfield Fire personnel. Long and a passenger in his car, Jesse E. Koleman, 23, of Madison, suffered serious, life-threatening injuries. Huebner, also suffered seroius, but non life-threatening injuries. All three were transported and admitted to UW Hospital. A dog in Huebner's car died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The airbags in both cars deployed. Long and Huebner were wearing seat belts, however Koleman was not. Long was cited for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated - 1st Offense, and Passing in a No Passing Zone. Additionally, Long is being charged with 2 counts of Causing Injury by Intoxicated Use of a Vehicle. Both alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors in this crash. This crash remains under investigation by the Dane County Sheriff's Office.
