Madison, WI: This morning, Thursday, August 28, 2008, at approximately 7:30 a.m., a member of the Dane County Sheriff's Office Marine and Trail Enforcement unit discovered a body floating along the north shore of Lake Monona. The boat patrol had been conducting daily searches, both morning and evening, since a person had been reported missing on Sunday, August 17th. The body was recovered along a steep embankment in the Spaight Street residential neighborhood on Madison's near east side, close to B.B. Clarke beach. The body was that of a white male and brought ashore at the Blair Street boatramp. An autopsy was conducted this morning and preliminary indications of cause of death are consistent with drowning. There were no signs of trauma and toxicology test results are pending. The deceased has not yet been positively identified. Further details will be forthcoming from the Sheriff's Office and/or Coroner's Office as soon as they become available.
