When a law enforcement officer or child protection worker in Dane County suspects a child has been victimized or has witnessed a crime, they have a place to go…that place is Safe Harbor, a non-profit child advocacy center. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the 5th Annual Safe Harbor Motorcycle Ride To Benefit Children on Saturday, August 16th. For only $25.00 per person, motorcyclists will enjoy a fun-filled ride departing from Capital City Harley-Davidson at 11:00 am. The route covers nearly 100 miles of scenic terrain on Dane and Columbia County back roads. The ride ends at Quaker Steak and Lube with a buffet meal, live music, and t-shirt, all included in the $25.00 registration fee. A raffle will also take place at the end of the ride where participants can win items like four tickets to a UW Badger football game, a signed UW Hockey jersey, and two $250 gift certificates to Capital City Harley-Davidson, just to name a few. Safe Harbor is not part of any government agency. It is a non-profit organization that needs local support to continue their work with children. Prior to Safe Harbor’s inception in 1999, a child victim may have been interviewed numerous times about their experience. Safe Harbor brings law enforcement, human services, and the court system together, allowing a child to make one video taped statement. If necessary, this statement can be used in court in place of the child having to testify. Safe Harbor also provides mental health and educational services. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office recognizes the invaluable service Safe Harbor provides for children and families in Dane County and encourages motorcyclists to participate in Saturday’s ride. Registration is available online at www.active.com or riders can register the day of the event between 9:00 and 11:00 am at Capital City Harley-Davidson at 6200 Millpond Road in Madison.
