Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies along with police officers from Middleton and Monona handed out 49 citations Saturday night while working the Drive SMART program on the beltline. In one stop, Juan D. Rodriguez-Guerrero, age 25 of Madison, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for No Drivers License – 3rd Offense. He was also cited for speeding (74 mph in a 55 mph zone), Inattentive Driving, and Obstructing. He was booked into the Dane County Jail on the warrant. Another stop of a vehicle traveling at 80 mph resulted in the arrest of Nina Greengrass-Starr, age 28 of Madison, for OWI – 3rd Offense. The OWI arrest could become a Felony since Greengrass-Starr was traveling with her 13-year-old daughter in the vehicle. Greenrgrass-Starr was taken to Meriter Hospital for a blood draw and then released to a responsible party pending the results of the blood test. She was also cited for Obstructing. In total, three drivers were cited for Operating While Intoxicated, and twenty-three were cited for Speeding. The other twenty-three citations included drivers operating with a revoked or suspended license, registration violations, and one citation for possession of THC. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office and police departments of Cottage Grove, Monona, City of Madison, Town of Madison, and Middleton will continue to patrol the beltline at random times throughout the summer. Sheriff David Mahoney reminds motorists to “Drive SMART” – Sober, Moderate Speed, Alert, Restrained and Thoughtful. ###
