Sheriff's Office

At approximately 10:05 pm on Sunday July 6th, a Dane County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop the driver of a black and yellow sport-type motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed and passing in a no passing zone on USH 14 near Stagecoach Road in the town of Cross Plains. Rather than start a pursuit of the cyclists, the deputy used his radio to alerted the Cross Plains Police of the speeding cyclists entering their jurisdiction. Seconds later, a Cross Plains Police Officer located the motorcyclist entering the Village of Cross Plains traveling west on USH 14, then turning north on Brewery Road. The officer attempted to stop the motorcyclists who continued to travel at excessive speeds and failed to stop at two stop signs during the pursuit. The motorcyclists continued northbound on CTH P. While in pursuit, the Cross Plains Officer lost control of his squad car, crashing into concrete barriers at the corner of Church Street and Thinnes Street. The Cross Plains Officer was not injured, however his squad car did sustain significant damage. The motorcyclist was last seen traveling east on Airport Road from the village. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office and the Cross Plains Police Department are seeking information on the driver of the motorcycle. Anyone with information is asked to call the Cross Plains Police Department at (608) 798-4100. ###
