On Saturday, June 14th at 7:00 am, the Horribly Hilly Hundred will be underway in western Dane County. The Horribly Hilly draws approximately 1,000 participants. The route the bikers follow are primarily narrow, hilly, and have no shoulders. This can create numerous blind spots and make traffic throughout the route congested and slow moving. Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies will be providing assistance and traffic control for the event to help ensure that both the cyclists and motorists obey all traffic laws, and this is a safe event for everyone. The Sheriff’s Office wants to remind motorists traveling through western Dane County on Saturday to plan ahead for traffic delays and use caution and patience when they encounter bicyclists. A map with the complete route of the event can be viewed at www.horriblyhilly.com. The Sheriff’s Office will also utilize the county’s Reverse 911 system to ensure citizens that live in the area have advanced notice of the event. A 30-second, pre-recorded message will go out Friday evening to over 4,000 residents of western Dane County to inform them of the possibility of significant traffic issues. This is the fifth year that the Horribly Hilly Hundreds has taken place. The event will conclude for the day at approximately 8:00 pm. ###
