Madison, WI: Monday, May 26, 2008 At 2:25 am Dane County Sheriff's Deputies, along with Stoughton and McFarland Fire Departments and EMS, responded to the area of Aalseth Lane and Brooklyn Drive in the Town of Dunn. One of four occupants in a canoe swam to shore and alerted authorities he was an occupant in a canoe, which had overturned on Lake Kegonsa. The three remaining occupants were reportedly still in the water. The four had ventured out shortly after midnight, and overturned around 1:30 am. Stoughton Fire Department personnel were able to locate the remaining three clinging to the overturned canoe at 3:30 am, and bring them safely to shore. All four were transported to Stoughton Hospital for treatment of hypothermia. Alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in this near-tragic incident. The four occupants, Ryan M. Vogel, age 20, of Stoughton, Andrew C. Vogel, age 20, of Stoughton, Ashley L. Hoth, age 19, of Plover, and Kaitlyn M. Hron, age 18, of Stoughton, were cited for Underage Alcohol Consumption. Additionally, Andrew Vogel was cited for No Lights on the canoe and Failure to Provide Enough Personal Floatation Devices. The Dane County Sheriff's Office reminds boaters and canoeists to maintain and display proper lighting between the hours of sunset and sunrise while out on the lakes. Additionally, Personal Floatation Devices are required for all occupants in any boat.
