March 16, 2008. Madison, WI. At 12:27 p.m., Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with Dane, Lodi, Waunakee and DeForest Fire Departments, responded to 7073 County Highway P, in the Town of Dane, for a report of a detached pole barn on fire. The first arriving deputy reported the barn was fully engulfed in flames. The fire was discovered by a family member, who immediately called 911. No one was in the pole barn at the time of the fire. The pole barn was used to store farm equipment and tools. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, however, is not suspicious. Adjacent to the pole barn was a secondary barn, which housed cattle. They were evacuated, as a precaution, with none injured. The pole barn, and its contents, were valued at $450,000. It is considered a total loss. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
