Residential Burglaries

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information on recent residential burglaries that have occurred in rural Dane County. In recent cases, suspects have burglarized rural homes during daytime hours. Detectives believe the suspect(s) may be going to the front door of the residence in an attempt to find out if the occupants are inside the home. If someone answers the door, the suspects give a bogus story about why they are there. In one case they claimed to be interested in a vehicle for sale in the front of the residence. If no one answers, the suspects burglarize the home, taking anything of value such as jewelry, televisions, stereos, and/or cash. The Sheriff’s Office reminds citizen’s to keep their homes, garages, and vehicles, locked at all times. Be aware of activity in your neighborhood and report anything unusual to authorities immediately.
