Sheriff's Office

Captain Michael Plumer of the Dane County Sheriff’s Office will retire Friday after 30 years of service to the department. Captain Plumer began his career with the DCSO in 1978. As with all new deputies his first assignment was in the jail. In 1983 he began working as a detective until 1985 when he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Just one year later he moved up to Lieutenant where he worked as the Officer in Charge as well as Lt. of Court Services. Plumer obtained the rank of Captain in 1989. He was Captain of Support Services for 3 years, and for 7 years he lead the Field Services division. Plumer has been Captain of Security Services since 1999. Mike Plumer has played a pivotal roll in many major cases for the Sheriff’s Office and has been responsible for the implementation and enhancement of programs such as contract and community policing in Dane County. A strong advocate for public safety, Plumer served as a member of the National Institute of Corrections Large Jail Network. Jeff Teuscher who was recently promoted to the rank of Captain will be replacing Plumer as head of the Security Services division. Security Services is the largest division of the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, with 262 staff members. ###
