Sheriff's Office

October 23, 2007. Madison, WI – The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a recent string of daytime burglaries in the southeast portion of the county. Yesterday at least 7 homeowners in the town of Pleasant Springs reported their homes had been burglarized while they were out. There were visible signs of forced entry through a garage or house door, and items stole included tools, jewelry, and cash. Some evidence has been recovered at the scenes, but the Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help to solve these crimes and prevent future break-ins. Investigators believe the suspects may be knocking on doors prior to entering the house to determine if anyone is home. If they find someone home, they may make up a story and move on to the next house until they find one unoccupied. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind homeowners to keep their doors and windows locked at all times. Be aware of the activity in your neighborhood. Report any suspicious activity to authorities immediately, and include information such as a vehicle license plate if possible. Anyone with information on these burglaries is asked to call the Dane County Tip line at 284-6900.
