Burglaries On The Rise

Madison, WI. 11/2/2007 – The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating numerous residential and non-residential burglaries throughout the county. Over the past two months, the number of burglaries occurring in the county has increased significantly, and the Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance to put a stop to these crimes. Since September 1st, approximately 90 burglaries have been reported to the Sheriff’s Office, compared to about 35 from the same period last year. The majority of the break-ins are occurring in the Southeast and Northwest portions of the county. The perpetrators are primarily seeking cash and jewelry. Investigators do not believe all of these crimes are related. There may be several individuals or groups committing these burglaries. The Sheriff’s Office reminds citizen’s to keep their homes, garages, vehicles, and businesses locked. Keep cash and other valuables secured. Be aware of your surroundings and report any unusual activity to authorities immediately.
