Dane County Sheriff's Office to Begin Floatation Inspections November 26, 2007. Madison, WI. The Marine and Trail Enforcement Bureau of the Dane County Sheriff’s Office will begin floatation inspections for ice ordinance compliance on Saturday, December 8th. Dane County Ordinance Chapter 71 requires certain motorized vehicles operated on lakes within Dane County to be equipped with floatation. All vehicles requiring flotation and/or a permit must be inspected. Inspection times and dates are as follows: Thursday’s 5:30pm to 7:30pm Saturday’s 7:30am to 9:30am December 13th, 20th, 27th. December 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th. January 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th. January 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th. Inspections are held at the Dane County Parks main office located at 4318 Robertson Rd., Madison, WI. There is now a $10.00 inspection fee for all new and renewal inspections. The fee is payable by cash or check at the time of inspections, and you must have a photo ID. Inspections at this location are done only at the dates and times listed. Please do not go to this address at any other time expecting an inspection. Requirements for Lakes Mendota – Monona – Wingra are: Vehicles weighing over 850 lbs require a special use permit. Vehicles weighing less than 850 lbs require floatation and a permit. All other Dane County Lakes: Vehicles weighing over 850 lbs require special use permit. Vehicles between 750-850 lbs require floatation and a permit. Vehicles under 750 lbs have no restrictions.
