Statement from Sheriff Barrett on Ridglan Beagles

“We are overjoyed to see these 1,500 beagles heading to loving homes and a far better life. We deeply care about the welfare of every animal in our Dane County community. The collaboration, cooperation, and communication between the facility and rescue organizations perfectly match our Dane County values. Violence and law-breaking are never the answer; this is a blueprint for peaceful negotiations and protests nationwide,” said Sheriff Kalvin Barrett. 
“It’s unfortunate that what could have been a large peaceful demonstration instead eroded to a coordinated incident that challenged our ability to maintain a peaceful community to live, work, and visit. I’m grateful for the response from our partner agencies and proud of the professionalism our deputies demonstrated under extraordinary circumstances.” 
“Our community now has an opportunity to make a real difference. The Dane County Humane Society will be taking in many of the rescued Beagles, and we encourage anyone considering adoption to meet these incredible pups and help them start a new chapter.
