Jail Resident Charged with Battery of a Deputy

Joshua Dean, age 27 of Chicago, IL, has been tentatively charged with battery of a law enforcement officer after he assaulted a Dane County Sheriff’s deputy on Sunday, April 12th.
At approximately 10:45 PM, jail deputies in the Public Safety Building were alerted to a deputy in need of help. When Dean failed to follow jail rules at “lights out,” he received a minor disciplinary action and was sent to a timeout room. As the deputy attempted to move Dean to the timeout room, Dean attacked the deputy. Supervisors and additional deputies responded, securing Dean and the housing unit. 
“This attack highlights the dangers our deputies face every day,” said Sheriff Kalvin Barrett. “This deputy’s strength and determination enabled him to walk away from this attack.”
The 26-year-old deputy sustained a serious injury and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. He has since been released and is recovering at home.
