Man Dies in Retention Pond

On Friday, December 6th, at 8:18 p.m., Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a property on Dead End Road in the town of Perry when a family member reported a 66-year-old man missing. With no signs that the man had left home, deputies began an extensive search of the 47-acre property on foot, using K9s and UAVs. Evidence was found near a retention pond, which led to a deputy searching the pond in an ice recovery suit. Sadly, the man’s body was recovered from the retention pond by deputies in the early morning hours of Saturday, December 7th. The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office also responded to the scene. The retention pond was partially ice-covered but had open water spots because of an aerator. It’s unclear why the man ventured onto the ice.
