Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies have responded to two head-on crashes in recent days, which have left motorists with severe and potentially life-threatening injuries.

At 6:46 pm on Tuesday, July 23rd, a two-car crash occurred on USH 14 and CTH A in the town of Rutland when a 2007 Saab 9-3 crossed the centerline and hit a 2019 Infiniti QX50 head-on. Both drivers sustained serious injuries and had to be extricated from their vehicles. Oregon EMS transported the 32-year-old man and 47-year-old woman to St. Mary’s Hospital. USH 14 was closed for approximately two hours while deputies processed the scene. Oregon Police and Fire also responded to assist. Impaired driving is a possible cause, but the crash remains under investigation.

A second head-on collision occurred on Wednesday, July 24th, just after 8:00 pm. Sheriff’s Deputies and Verona Police responded to the scene at Maple Grove Drive and Old PB in the town of Verona. A total of three patients were transported to local hospitals by EMS. A charge of OWI – 2nd offense, causing injuries, is pending against a 41-year-old Madison man who remains hospitalized.
