In Custody Death

At 10:35 am, Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies and in-house medical staff responded to a housing unit in the Public Safety Building portion of the Dane County Jail for a resident discovered unresponsive in their cell. Staff immediately began performing life-saving efforts.

Madison Fire Department Paramedics responded and took over medical care but could not revive the person.

Under Sheriff’s Office policy, the death will be thoroughly investigated by an outside agency. The Madison Police Department will lead the investigation with the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office. Any future updates will be provided by their offices. Our sincere condolences go out to the person’s family and loved ones.
