Sheriff's Office
In a statement earlier today, Ironman Wisconsin confirmed the death of a participant during Sunday’s Ironman triathlon.
A man suffered a medical event in the town of Cross Plains during the bike portion of the course. As stated in Ironman Wisconsin’s release, immediate medical attention was provided by a staff member and an off-duty police officer, until EMS arrived and transported him to a local hospital.
The 51-year-old man from Madison was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Any additional details will be provided by the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office. Our condolences to his family and fellow competitors.
