JOINT LAW ENFORCEMENT STOLEN VEHICLE OPERATION

Over the past several years, Dane County law enforcement agencies have been working together to tackle the prevalence of vehicle thefts and related crimes in the Madison/Dane County area. Today, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office deputies, along with officers other local and state agencies, conducted a joint proactive traffic operation. Agencies participating in this operation were Wisconsin State Patrol, Madison Police, UW Madison Police, Monona Police, Fitchburg Police, Maple Bluff Police, Deforest Police, Middleton Police, Sun Prairie Police, McFarland Police, Verona Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

During the 4-hour operation, the group was involved in several traffic stops, which resulted in the recovery one stolen vehicle in the City of Madison, three additional arrests, two recovered firearms, and the recovery of a significant amount of controlled substances.

The following individuals were arrested:

           

            Charles R. Moore, age 21

            Robert A. Goldsberry, age 26

            Maurice R. Jenkins, age 24

Charges for these individuals are pending continuing investigations by several agencies.

Area agencies continue to participate in several social media campaigns reminding citizens to secure their residences (including garage doors) and vehicles. Remove valuables, firearms, keys and garage door openers from your vehicle, even when parked in your driveway. In addition, citizens are reminded not to leave their vehicles running and unattended. Stolen vehicles have been used during the commission of other crimes in the area including, gas drive-offs, thefts, burglaries, drug dealing and shots fired incidents.
