Deputies Attacked in City County Building Jail

March 30, 2022 – At approximately 8:30 am on Tuesday, March 29th, two Dane County Sheriff’s deputies were attacked by a resident in a cellblock of the City County Building Jail.
Resident Timothy I. Thomas, age 32, of Portland, OR was being held in the Dane County Jail by the U.S. Marshal Service pending federal charges. The deputies were completing routine wellness checks and area inspections in the cellblock in which Thomas was housed at the time of the attack. Without provocation or any indication Thomas was agitated or upset, he spontaneously and violently attacked the two deputies. Additional deputies responded and were able to secure Thomas and apply restraints.
Two counts of battery to a law enforcement officer will be referred to the District Attorney’s Office.
Both involved deputies received injuries from the attack with one of them being evaluated and later released from a local hospital.
