Dane County Sheriff’s deputies arrested three teens in the early morning hours of January 9, after they stole a vehicle from a gas station parking lot on Milwaukee Street in the City of Madison.
At approximately 1:15 am, a Sheriff’s deputy located a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe that had just been reported stolen an hour earlier from the eastside Woodman’s gas station. The deputy followed the vehicle as he coordinated with Madison Police to make a traffic stop. Prior to the traffic stop, the driver and two passengers abandoned the vehicle near Venus Way and fled on foot. A perimeter was established and the three juveniles were found and arrested with the assistance of Madison Police and their K9.
The three males ages 15, 15 and 16, were taken to the Juvenile Reception Center. Tentative charges include Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Owner’s Consent, Criminal Damage to Property and Resisting Arrest. The vehicle was returned to its rightful owner.
The Sheriff’s Office wants to remind citizens, even though it is tempting in these frigid temperatures, do not leave your vehicle running and unlocked. It only takes seconds for a vehicle theft to occur.
