Over the next three days, several overtime enforcement grants will allow the Dane County Sheriff’s Office to patrol in higher numbers.

On Friday, January 16th, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office will participate in a grant funded OWI enforcement project provided by the WI Department of Transportation. Five additional deputies will be patrolling Dane County to arrest drunk drivers.

In addition to the five deputies working the grant project, Dane County Traffic Team deputies will be working Friday and Saturday night, also looking for intoxicated drivers, but strictly enforcing all traffic laws in the process. Throughout 2009 Traffic Team deputies will work weekend nights.

On Monday, January 19th, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office will be taking part in the new “Zero in Wisconsin” project, also funded by the WI Department of Transportation. Dane County has received $20,000 for this project, which will run through the end of September. The goal of this campaign is zero fatalities on Wisconsin roadways.

Make the decision to get a designated driver, and not become one of the many arrests deputies make every week for OWI. Drive sober, wear your seatbelt, and drive the speed limit.
